What is a Truck Cab?

If you’re not a truck enthusiast, you might not be aware of the many types of truck cab options on the market. What is a truck cab? It’s the area of the truck where passengers ride – there are different types of cabs on trucks for different purposes, and choosing the right cab could be the difference between riding comfortably and not having to make tough choices about who in your crew can ride with you to the next Elk River job site. The different types of cabs on trucks include:

  • Regular Cab
  • Extended Cab
  • Crew Cab
  • Extended Crew Cab
  • Cab Chassis

Regular cab trucks only have a bench seat in the cab, or they might have two bucket seats instead of a bench. Regular cabs seat two or three people, and other cabs typically seat five or six people. The difference between extended and crew cab trucks is that extended cab trucks typically offer more legroom. However, crew cabs have back doors whereas extended cab trucks may or may not.

Cab Chassis

Cab chassis trucks are equipped with both a cab for passengers and a chassis behind it instead of the truck bed that you usually see. They are also usually found in the heavy-duty (HD) truck class of commercial vehicles rather than light-duty passenger pickups, so they’re often used as commercial vehicles in Elk River. Cab chassis trucks, along with other commercial vehicles, are typically used in these industries:

  • Medical
  • Construction
  • Waste Management
  • Landscaping
  • Agriculture
  • Forestry
  • Electrical
